Common Oral Surgery Procedures

Tooth Extractions

Tooth extractions are one of the most common types of oral surgery procedures. Generally a simple procedure, tooth extraction can be completed right in the dentist’s office. During this procedure, your dentist gently pulls your tooth, being careful not to disturb healthy bone or gum tissue.

Bone Grafting

  • Bone grafting is a specialized oral surgery treatment that involves replacing bone levels in the jaw. Usually due to missing teeth, bone loss is ongoing, and must be treated to support a denture or dental implants. A bone grafting procedure involves taking bone from the patient or a donor source and placing it at the site of bone resorption. Once the sutures are in place, the area is allowed to heal for a few months to let the bone grafting material and jawbone integrate.

Wisdom Tooth Extractions

Another form of tooth extraction, wisdom tooth removal is often more complex and can take up to a few hours to complete. When wisdom teeth erupt, typically between the ages of 17 and 25, they can cause serious pain and dental problems like crowding and cracked teeth. If you develop impacted wisdom teeth, you are at high risk for developing an infection. Before your procedure, we will administer sedation to ensure you are comfortable for the entirety of your wisdom tooth extraction. Once your procedure is complete, we will make sure you have everything you need to stay comfortable during recovery, which generally takes a couple of days.

Dental Implant Surgery

With over 3,000 dental implants successfully placed, Ernesto Prida has extensive experience in this area of restorative dentistry. Dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth, made up of three parts: the post, the abutment and the restoration. Dental implant posts are surgically inserted into the jawbone to anchor a new tooth or set of teeth. Our Smile Simulation Technology makes modern dental implant surgery precise, which allows us to see how your full mouth looks and where the dental implants will need to be placed. Immediate load of a temporary restoration may also be available for qualifying patients!
