Dental Implants in Mckinney

An illustration of a dental implant. If you have a missing tooth or teeth, your options are much better than they were 20 years ago. Dental implants have become the standard solution for missing teeth, and are a stronger and more aesthetic choice than bridges or partial dentures. Our Stonelodge Dental team has extensive experience placing implants.

What Are Implants?

As the name implies, dental implants consist of a titanium rod that is implanted into the jawbone. Once the bone has healed and the implant is fused with the bone, a crown is placed over the rod. Essentially, the rod has become an artificial tooth root, and it creates a very stable base for the crown. Implants can last a lifetime, but they are not resilient to poor oral hygiene, so it’s very important to brush and floss properly and get regular dental check-ups.

The materials used for crowns have improved tremendously over the past decade, and we can create a tooth or teeth that matches your remaining teeth for a beautiful smile.

What to Expect

Patients have a wide variety of conditions that lead to the need for implants, so each person’s experience is unique. As much as possible, we strive to streamline the process and minimize the time it takes to complete the restoration.

In some cases, we are able to extract the unrestorable tooth and place the implant on the same day, while reinforcing the bone around the implant with a bone graft or sinus lift. In other cases, there is not enough bone to anchor and support the implant, so we have to do grafts and wait for them to heal before placing the implant.

Your dentist will conduct a thorough examination and talk with you about your options, so you will know exactly what to expect before moving forward.

How Long Does It Take?

In general, implant restoration takes between three and nine months to heal completely.

For front teeth, we can place a temporary crown while the bone heals, and then create and place the permanent crown.
